In the spirit of fall, I made creamy chicken chili for dinner recently. In the spirit of the new book He Said Beer, She Said Wine, I decided to do a face-off between Prosecco, a simple Italian sparkling wine, and Blue Moon, a Belgian-style white beer.
Considering that I’m the wine nut and my husband gives his allegiance equally to wine and beer, it was strange that we ended up switching sides this time. I though the Blue Moon, which was fruity and mild, was an excellent match with the spicy, creamy chili. A sip after a bite tamed the spice and refreshed the palate. The Prosecco made the spice even spicier and tasted a bit like gasoline with the chili (and not in the good Sauternes or Riesling way).
Derek liked the wine better, but added “If this were Sam Adams, I’d pick the beer.”
