Kalala Winery keen to export ice wines to India
Canada-based Kalala Organic Estate Winery plans to introduce its products in the Indian market. The company sees potential for its ice wines in the country. It will target the premium segment as the consumer market of the product. Of the 60 acres of vineyard under its control, the company has dedicated about 10 acres for the growth of ice wines.
The wines are priced Canadian $ 75 in the home country. The company is yet to work on an appropriate pricing for the wines in India. Karnail Singh Sidhu, Viticulturist and Manager, Kalala Organic Estate Winery is presently in negotiations with Indian importers and distributors. In 2008, the company produced 10,000 cases of wines. “India provides a huge growth opportunity for us as there aren't premium quality ice wines available in the country. Ice wines can be well paired with Indian food and thus, our products will perform well here,” Sidhu opines.
“India also has the potential to produce good quality wines which will have an international standing. We eventually plan to develop our winery in the country as well and will look at production of ice wines.
