Wines on the Wabash to be Friday
Wabash Center will host the seventh annual Wines on the Wabash from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the University Plaza Hotel in West Lafayette.
The charity event to benefit Wabash Center will feature more than 100 wines to taste, micro brew and imported beer tasting, Wolf chocolates, Brunoscottis and Great Harvest bread and hors d'oeuvres.
There also will be door prizes, a spirit wagon and wine cart raffle and a chance to win a $1,000 diamond from Stall & Kessler.
Tickets are $45 per person and are available at Wabash Center, 2000 Greenbush St. in Lafayette; Village Bottle Shoppe, 404 Sagamore Parkway W. in West Lafayette; and the Journal & Courier, 217 N. Sixth St. in Lafayette.
Purdue speeds some degrees in aviation
Beginning in fall 2009, select students in Purdue University's aviation technology program will be able to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in a total of five years.
Applications are being accepted from current juniors in the aviation management and professional flight technology programs in the Department of Aviation Technology who meet the standards for admission.
Students will earn a master of science in technology degree with a concentration in aviation and aerospace management. Earning both of those degrees usually takes six years or more.
This is the first such dual-degree program in Purdue's College of Technology.
To be eligible, students must maintain a 3.5 grade point average in aviation technology courses, maintain a 3.2 overall GPA and complete at least 93 of the 124 required credit hours for a bachelor's degree by the end of their sixth semester. If accepted, students enter the program in their seventh semester.

Subjects needed for Purdue test
Adults ages 18 to 50 are needed for a Purdue University study on carotenoid absorption from vegetables.
Participants in the 66-day study conducted in Purdue's Department of Foods and Nutrition will be asked to consume a controlled diet for three 7-day periods. They also will complete three days of testing that will take about 12 hours each at Stone Hall.
Participants' measurements, including blood carotenoid levels and cholesterol levels, will be taken.
Compensation for completing the study is $500.

Crawfordsville sets Ivy Tech visitors day
Ivy Tech's Montgomery County Instructional Center will hold an Admissions Visitation Day from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The event will give prospective students an opportunity to tour the facility and speak with Ivy Tech representatives about admissions, financial aid and other topics.
The Montgomery County Instructional Center is located at 2985 Industrial Blvd. in Crawfordsville.
