Women Who Drink Wine at Increased Breast Cancer Risk
Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Women who like their wine are putting themselves at increased risk of breast cancer.
This fact comes as the result of a study by researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
The study featured the researchers comparing health records of more than 6,000 breast cancer patients against more than 7,000 of a control group of subjects.
Previous studies have found health benefits to drinking moderate amounts of wine, a fact that leaves women confused as to the actual truth when it comes to the popular alcohol.
The study showed that red and white wine did not prevent breast cancer, and may in fact encourage tumor growth.
“If a woman drinks, she should do so in moderation – no more than one drink a day. And if a woman chooses red wine, she should do so because she likes the taste, not because she thinks it may reduce her risk of breast cancer,” said leader of the study Polly Newcomb.
