Old Firehouse Winery celebrates Cinco de Mayo
Guests are invited to don their sombreros and spurs every Friday and Saturday evening and celebrate this holiday in style with Mexican food and drink. The Winery is known for their celebrations and this year's Cinco de Mayo tops them all.
Don't worry, the Mexican dishes are not spicy hot, but the restaurant serves a green sauce - so you make them as hot as you can stand. Then, there's great Margaritas to cool you down.
Following dinner, head over to the Oak Room where the Dinner Theatre presents "Cinco de Murder" and guests are expected to join in the search for "El Dorado, the Lost City of Gold." But beware - dastardly villains are hot on the trail, and it's up to the guests to thwart their plans. Cost is $40 per person, and early reservations are suggested since dates sell out quickly. Call 800-518-8650 to reserve your seat at this unique celebration.
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of the Mexican Army over the French in 1862. Even though they were outnumbered two to one, 4,000 members of the Mexican Army under the command of General Zaragosa and the cavalry under the command of Colonel Porfirio Diaz won a great victory. This kept Napoleon III from supplying the Confederate Army rebels for another year, allowing the Union Army to defeat the Confederates at Gettysburg, and essentially ending the Civil War.
Today's Cinco de Mayo celebrations share the culture, art, music and food of Mexico. The Old Firehouse Winery is located at 5499 Lake Road at Geneva-on-the-Lake. For additional information on special events call 800-518-8650 or visit www.oldfirehousewinery.com.
