Apr. 21, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Hong Kong and Australia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the wine business on Apr. 16, sources reported.

The MOU mainly covers trade visits, trainings, seminars, exhibitions, investment promotion and information exchange, and other travel activities relevant to wine.

Rita Lau, Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, said that this is the first time Hong Kong has signed a MOU with a new-world wine country, and that Hong Kong hopes to become the wine center in Asia.

Australia is Hong Kong's second largest wine supplier, and accounted for 19% of Hong Kong's overall wine imports, said Rita Lau.

Hong Kong has also signed MOUs for expanding the wine market with France and Spain.
