Winery to open on Akwesasne
Akwesasne's first winery is set to open Saturday, offering samplings of three wine varieties.
The Laughing Crow Winery is at 37 West Steakhouse and Restaurant, Route 37, Akwesasne.
The winery has begun its own plantings but currently purchases grape juice to make their white and desert wines. The company contracts with a local winery to produce the red wine.
Mature grapes from the firm's own vineyard should be ready to use in wine production in three to five years.
Saturday's formal opening and public wine tasting will take place Saturday, April 4 from 5-8 p.m.
Wines available for sampling will include a red Pinot Noir, Akwesasne Riverland White and Blackberry Bird Dessert Wine.
The 37 Steakhouse will offer its full menu designed to compliment the wine selections.
Laughing Crow was created and operates locally by Marjorie Skidders and her four children, Nikaiataa, Sawentanon, Tciohontsiakwente and Niiohontaa.
