California leaders in sustainable winegrowing will gather at the Napa Valley

Grapegrowers’ Sustainable Best Practices Workshop on April 22 to share knowledge and experiences in employing sustainable viticultural techniques.

The event at the Moulds Family Vineyards Barn in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. is open to all winegrape growers interested in enhancing their efforts in sustainability. Admission is $20 for NVG members and $60 for non-members.
Topics include:

• A discussion led by Rick Snyder of UC Davis and meteorologist Mike Pechner of KCBS on how best to adjust to California’s changing weather patterns through sustainable means.
• An exploration into ways in which growers can better manage their water resources during times of scarcity, moderated by winegrowing consultant Phil Freese of WineGrow.

• A study of how the implementation of alternative irrigation and sustainable canopy management strategies leads to an increase in wine quality, moderated by Steve Matthaisson, president of Premier Viticultural Services.
Cliff Ohmart of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, who was the driving force behind the creation and development of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Handbook, will provide the keynote address.
