Discover the diversity of Australian wine currently in China at FHC 2008

The amazing diversity of Australian wine will truly be on show at this year’s Food Hospitality China (FHC) tradeshow.

More than 100 wines sourced from over 40 wineries spread across a number of Australian wine regions will be featured on the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation’s Wine Australia stand at FHC in December.

“I cannot think of a better opportunity to experience a variety of wine styles and the subtle differences that genuine regionality   brings in one convenient location,” said respected Australian wine writer and commentator Jeremy Oliver, who will be part of the Wine Australia team in Shanghai.

“Most importantly, all of these wines are currently available in China and I strongly encourage professional wine enthusiasts and retail/restaurant staff to come and try something new that is readily available to them, or simply to learn a little more about wines they already know.

“Everything from Barossa Shiraz to Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley and Chardonnay from Margaret River will be available for tasting, and there will be winemakers and winery representatives to talk with.

“This will be a showcase of current high quality and innovative wine from the largest New World wine producer and exporter.”

Mr. Oliver said the focus of Australia’s involvement at FHC was very much on education.

“What really excites us is the passion in China to embrace wine and learn more about it, and that is what we plan to explore in Shanghai.”

Mr. Oliver will host a number of events in Shanghai during FHC, including a master class for invited guests at the show on December 4.

“China is now the largest export destination for bottled Australian wine in Asia with more than 1 million dozen cases of Australian wine exported to China in the last 12 months, and Australia is the second biggest imported wine supplier country for imported wine, so we know that our wine is increasingly popular here,” says Ali Hogarth, Regional Manager with the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation.

Australia’s high-profile presence at FHC is part of an expanded focus in China, including the appointment of a Market Development Officer in China in a joint initiative between the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC) and Austrade, and the launch of a Wine Australia China Market Program to support existing wine companies exporting to China and to improve education and awareness of Australian wine in China.

FHC runs from Thursday 4th December to Saturday 6th December at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) in Pudong. The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation's "Wine Australia" stand will be located in Hall 2, stand number 2J09.
