Employees from the Cellars, Vineyards and Main Office Came Together in Support of the Local Community

On Thursday, May 7, 2009, more than 350 Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines (DC&E) employees celebrated the company's commitment to giving back during the company's Second Annual Community Service Day. Employees from Napa and Sonoma area cellars and vineyards, the DC&E main Napa office and employees from around the country worked together to support their local communities across the country.

Through a partnership with Hands on Bay Area (HOBA) 12 projects throughout the North Bay were identified. During the course of the day DC&E employees helped make a positive impact. Including:

Removing 1 ton of wild radish and planting more than 150 seedlings at San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refugee
Removing invasive blackberry species on Mount George for the Land Trust of Napa County
Assembling 600 cases of food for the Redwood Empire Food Bank
Beautifying the grounds and creating gardens throughout the Veterans Home of California campus
Converting the lawn to zero landscape at the Family Services of Napa and painting the facility
Creating 200 welcome cards for kids and families entering the Ronald McDonald House
Cleaning kennels and painting the kitten room at Pets Lifeline Animal Shelter
Creating 2767 HIV prevention kits for Bay Area Young Positives

"Now more than ever it's important for everyone to take time to help their local communities," said Tom Scott, Vice President of Communications. "We are so proud to have such great partners that help make all of these projects so rewarding for our employees around the US."

In addition to Napa and Sonoma staff, employees at all DC&E sites were encouraged to organize local events including:

Preparing and delivering dinner for 175 people at the Maxine Lewis Memorial Homeless Shelter in San Luis Obispo
Building a community garden at the Edith/Carrie Street Park in Yakima, WA.
Completing multiple beautification projects at Children's Wishes and Dreams in Walla Walla, WA
Diageo North America participated in the Diageo River Clean up in Norwalk, CT and Plainfield employees partnered with the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce to distribute reusable shopping bags to new families.

DC&E's commitment to being a good corporate citizen is reflected in long-standing programs like Sterling Vineyards' Silver Screen Series and its support of the Land trust of Napa Valley via sales of Wildlake Ranch Merlot, as well as Acacia's tradition of supporting surrounding marshlands.
