Jeanty's All-You-Can-Eat Oysters & Wine-Tasting This Sunday
How's this for spending a Sunday afternoon? All-you-can-slurp oysters from seven local purveyors, washed down with as much as you like from a selection of suitable wines. On May 17, from noon to 6:00 p.m., that's exactly what's on offer at Jeanty at Jack's (615 Sacramento near Montgomery, for reservations call 693-0941).
Participating farms are Drake's Bay, Hog Island, Marin, Point Reyes, Tomales Bay, Humboldt Bay, and Preston Point. Schramsberg, Groth, J, Girard, Boss, Frog's Leap, Wattle Creek, Iron Horse, Sinskey County Line, and Cosentino will be pouring their most oyster-friendly wines. There'll also be live music (TBA). At $60 a head, the party's not cheap, though compared with Jeanty's regular price of $10.50 the half-dozen and $7-$12 a glass, it's a bargain. At least for those of us with big appetites.
It's also a pretty good deal compared with the San Francisco Oyster Fest coming up on Saturday, May 16, at the Great Meadow at Fort Mason. There, oysters will be six for $11 and drinks $7 each, on top of the entrance fee ($23 advance, $30 gate). Of course, that's a charity event, and also includes a music festival -- which might be a plus or not, depending on your taste. Last year's oyster fest reportedly drew around 15,000 people.
