Malta Embassy promotes culture and tourism in Beijing
The Embassy of Malta in Beijing participated in the recent “EU Extravaganza” in Beijing organised by the Delegation of the EU Commission to China. The objective of the event is to promote cultural exchange and friendship between European countries and China and to facilitate the understanding of the diversity of European culture in China.
“This is an important event as it is part of an ongoing programme of cultural promotion coordinated and funded by the EU Commission. This event provides an opportunity to smaller countries to promote their cultural and tourism offerings on an equal footing with those of larger EU states. Conversely, the diversity provided by the participation of the smaller states makes this event particularly interesting to the public,” stated Malta’s Ambassador to China Mr Karl Xuereb, at the opening ceremony.
Despite the searing temperatures of around 35 degrees the event was well attended by the Chinese public. The Malta stand was managed by the Embassy of Malta in Beijing with the collaboration of Air Malta’s General Sales Agent for China BEALL. The stand was designed to project Malta’s tourism offer. It was adorned with posters of Malta and featured promotional video of Malta in the Chinese language supplied by the Malta Tourism Authority. Brochures and fliers in the Chinese language were also distributed at the event.
On the cultural side Malta’s viniculture was promoted with red and white wines from Camilleri and Delicata wine producers. Participation in this event was organised by Malta’s Embassy in Beijing.
The event was held in Beijing’s Chaoyang Park from May 23 to 24. All 27 member states were present with their cultural and tourism offerings at their respective national stands.
