The snack is a kind of instant food, delicious, inexpensive and suitable for everyone. This industry specializes in snack-making and is otherwise called pastry industry for pastries taking up the lion's share of snacks.

Pastries can be classified into the north and south categories. The raw materials of the former gives priority to legume and those made of peas and kidney beans are quite popular. The southern ones boast their varieties of design and color, which include rice cake, sweet cake, mint cake, red bean cake, pine nut cake, yellow muffin cake, rice paste cake etc. Patty category involves the seedcake on Shandong vendors' steamed bread stands and the big pancake along with the deep-fried twisted dough sticks. These pastries are sold in the shop or peddled by the vendors. Sometimes, they would also be accompanied by such timely cakes as "Double Ninth cake" and "spring cake".
