National Beverage Corp. has posted a healthy lift in sales and profits for its first quarter.

The US-based soft drinks company, which owns the Shasta and Faygo soft drinks brands, said late last week that net profits for the three months to the end of July came in at US$9.8m compared to $7.8m in the corresponding period a year earlier.
Sales followed suit, climbing by 6.5% year-on-year to $163m in a quarter the firm described as "excellent".

"We are quite pleased with the start to our new fiscal year," said National Beverage's chairman and CEO, Nick Caporella.

In July, National Beverage posted a 10% increase in net profits for its fiscal year to the end of April.
