Kiwis go for cheaper wine
A survey has found that New Zealanders are getting tighter when it comes to how much they are willing to pay for a bottle of wine.
The nationwide 'Kiwi Wine Habits' study, commissioned by Liquorland Top 100, says almost half of the 1700 respondents admitted the recession is impacting on the amount of money they are prepared to fork out for wine.
67% said they spend $11 to $20 a bottle when entertaining at home.
The survey also found however that most people are still enjoying their favourite tipple on a regular basis, with 24.8% drinking wine two to three times per week.
Director of the Liquorland Top 100, wine consultant Belinda Jackson, says the results reflect New Zealanders penchant for a good glass of wine, even when times are tight.
"The fact New Zealanders are still enjoying wine several times a week but selecting wines with a lower price point indicates more people are opting for a cheap night in with a bottle of wine rather than splurging on a big night out."
When questioned on the largest amount they have ever spent on a bottle of wine, 26.6% of respondents answered $21 to $30.
Only 11.3% have ever spent more than $100 on one bottle.
