Alimentaria 2010 extends its international expansion projects

By   2009-9-6 9:07:31
The International Projects make a significant contribution to consolidating the Alimentaria brand as a major gathering for food and beverage manufacturing and distribution from around the world. In addition, these undertakings are crucial to establishing Alimentaria as a platform for internationalisation for the Spanish agri-food industry.

Alimentaria 2010 is committed to attracting greater participation and gaining importance outside Spain. For this reason the event has increased its budget for international promotion by 30% as compared to the previous edition of the show. Within the strategy of expanding the network of contacts and volume of transactions globally, the show’s International Projects will be a key tool. Among other activities, Alimentaria will include outgoing delegations of buyers; cooperation, distribution, innovation and food technology conferences; seminars and the Taste & Flavours of Spain initiative.

The numbers speak for the importance of the International Food and Beverages Exhibition as an outstanding international centre for commercial transactions: over 20% of the show’s 158,000 visitors come from abroad, an international presence which increases to 30% in the case of exhibitor companies, more than 1,500 firms. In total, 15,000 m2 of the 94,500 m2 of exhibition space occupied by Alimentaria 2010 will be reserved for foreign exhibitors, 2% more than at the last edition of the trade show in 2008. Additionally, international promotion has intensified with a significant international promotional campaign in 128 specialised publications from 33 countries.

Six projects, one show
The event is a leader in global trade thanks to its various International Projects, which encompass virtually every continent. With this edition, the existing projects, targeting Latin America, Asia, the U.S.A. and Canada, Central and Eastern Europe and Western Europe, are joined by the Middle East, focused on building ties with the countries of the Persian Gulf region (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Qatar and Kuwait).

The Latin America Project, the oldest, will reach its sixth edition, offering exhibitors greater and better opportunities. With the support of the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB in its Spanish acronym), the event will consist primarily of distribution conferences between Spain and Latin America – with the collaboration of the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade
(ICEX in its Spanish acronym) – and technology and innovation conferences – promoted by the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB), together with the Spanish Agency for International Co-operation (AECI in its Spanish acronym). A significant number of the activities and meetings will be held at the Meeting Point space inside the Latin American Pavilion – which brings together exhibitors from Central America, Bolivia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, with the support of the AECI.

The Multi-sector Business Association (AMEC in its Spanish acronym) and ACC1Ó (an initiative of the Catalan government) will support the third edition of the Asia Project, whose main goal is to provide Spanish companies with a greater knowledge of the opportunities offered by the major Asian markets. Participating countries will include Japan, China, Taiwan, India, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

The aim of the Central and Eastern Europe Project will be to point Spanish firms in the direction of interesting business opportunities opening up in new European Union member countries such as Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Baltic states and the Czech Republic, among others. For its part, with the support of the ICEX, the Western Europe Project will encourage promotion of the Spanish agri-food industry in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, the Netherlands, England, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Norway and Sweden.

Strengthening relations with North America and promoting knowledge of this powerful market is the purpose of the U.S.A. and Canada Project, which has the strategic support of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Miami, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, ICEX and ACC1Ó.

Institutions and organisations, committed to Alimentaria 2010
Alimentaria, the International Food and Beverages Exhibition, which will be held 22-26 March of next year, has increased the number of institutions and organisations collaborating on its international expansion plan. The Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX in its Spanish acronym) will be especially important in this regard, as it will promote Alimentaria 2010 throughout the world via its extensive network of trade offices, as well as the numerous promotional activities it carries out. In addition, the presence of the Federation of Spanish Sweets Associations (FEAD in its Spanish acronym), CIES-The Food Business Forum, the Multi-sector Business Association (AMEC in its Spanish acronym), Promoter of Catalan Exports (PRODECA in its Catalan acronym), ACC10, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the chambers of commerce in Miami, Guatemala, El Salvador and Venezuela will contribute to strengthening the international dimension of the trade show.

For its part, the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB in its Spanish acronym) will reinforce its close collaboration with Alimentaria. In addition to playing an active role in the various conferences held as part of the show, FIAB invites Alimentaria to take part in its activities abroad, primarily through a presence at international conferences and trade shows.

Taste & Flavours of Spain
The eighteenth edition of Alimentaria will bring a new feature created to allow the show’s international audience to enjoy Spain’s varied cuisine through activities led by experts in the area during the event. The aim of Taste & Flavours of Spain is to raise awareness of the wealth and quality of Spanish food and beverage products among the specialised distribution channel, gourmet shops, delicatessens, chefs, restaurateurs, the hotel and catering industry, opinion leaders and the international trade press.

Participants interesting in taking part in Taste & Flavours of Spain will discover spaces such as Spain, the Country of a Hundred Cheeses, Spain, Land of Oils, Vinorum, Innoval, The Spain of Cured Iberian Meat Products and The Rising Stars of Impulse Buying, among others.
