Bag-in-box wine gets space-saving upgrade from Constellation

Winemaker Constellation Europe has tackled the challenge of housing bulky bag-in-box packs in the fridge with the launch of the new FreshCase pack.

The FreshCase holds 2.25l, the equivalent of three bottles of wine, but only takes up the space used by one of its glass counterparts.

It weighs 70% less than three of its glass counterparts and incorporates a pull-down tap and handle that can be turned into a stand for pouring.

Wine is kept fresh for up to six weeks after opening.

Hardy's Nottage Hill will be the first wine to be packed in the FreshCase and will be available from Sainsbury's from 1 November.

Constellation Europe manufactures the pack at its new manufacturing and distribution site Constellation Park, based at Avonmouth, near Bristol.

The company's in-house design team has worked with London-based design agency Drinks Works to develop the FreshCase pack.

"Our testing shows that FreshCase appeals to high spending and knowledgeable professional consumers who find the idea exciting, clear and unique," said Paul Edwards, chief executive at Research International

Holly Lee, wine buyer for Sainsburys said: "FreshCase is one of the most exciting packaging innovations in wine that we have ever seen – offering real benefits to the consumer in keeping premium wine fresh for longer in a stylish and convenient new pack."
