Exceptional, Outstanding, Excellent and Distinguished Wines of Australia

In June 2009 the Australian wine community made its most significant investment to date in telling Australia’s fine wine story through the inaugural Landmark Australia Tutorial, where 12 international guests tasted over 200 of Australia’s finest wines.
Last week (Sept. 23 and 24) saw Wine Australia share this ‘Landmark’ occasion with the local wine community in Beijing and Shanghai, hosting a masterclass with 14 wines from the inaugural Tutorial.
“Today captured a sense of Australia’s commitment to quality wine making, and was another important step in us sharing that story with the local wine community,” said Lucy Anderson, Manager International Marketing and Communications for the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC).
“The tasting explored a number of different expressions of our fine wine dimension, both historic and contemporary, and all of the wines displayed the commitment to excellence that is the Landmark signature,” Ms Anderson concluded.
Hosted by Andrew Caillard Master of Wine (MW), specialist wine auctioneer and co-founder of Langton’s Fine Wine Auctions, the Landmark Australia tastings in China were organised for key trade and media personnel from Beijing and Shanghai.
Andrew Caillard MW spoke favourably about the masterclass “The Landmark wine tastings tell a compelling story about Australia’s greatest wines. These wines, each strikingly perfumed, individual and delicious to drink, are soulful, evocative and authentic. They are hugely prized by collectors for their longevity and Australianness.”
“For two decades Langton's Classification – comprising Exceptional, Outstanding, Excellent and Distinguished rankings – has highlighted the best performing Landmark Australian wines on the secondary wine market. Wine Australia's Landmark wines and Langton's Classification neatly illustrate the sheer depth and diversity of the Australian ultra-fine wine experience.”
This week also sees the announcement of the 2010 Landmark Australia Tutorial. Moving from Australia’s famous Barossa Valley to the stunning Yarra Valley in Victoria, September 2010 will see 12 successful candidates provided with a return business class airfare to Australia, all expenses paid, and luxury accommodation for the duration of the Tutorial.
“‘Landmark Australia has many positive associations,” Ms Anderson continued “but, above all, it should be a reference point for Australia’s most accomplished wines. We are very proud to have showcased these wines in China today.”
