International wine commentators Oz Clarke and Andrew Caillard will join Mosel superstar winemaker Ernst Loosen at the second triennial Nelson Aromatics Symposium, to be held in the Nelson village of Upper Moutere in February 2010.
Nelson winemakers will host a contingent of media, wine trade and winemakers from New Zealand and around the world, as they explore the role of vineyard and winemaker in the creation of fine wine. Some of the world’s greatest Riesling and Gewurztraminer wines will be tasted alongside their New Zealand counterparts.
“It will be a rare opportunity to showcase New Zealand aromatic wines in an international context,” said Symposium Chair Tim Finn of Neudorf Vineyards. “New Zealand is known internationally for its unique Sauvignon Blanc, but it is not widely recognised that we also produce great wines from other varieties. From a marketing point of view we have too many eggs in one basket. Riesling is especially suited to the New Zealand climate, and this symposium gives us the opportunity to show some of these wines to an influential international audience.”
Mr Finn said that it was fitting that the Nelson wine industry established the symposium as the region produces some of New Zealand’s finest aromatic wines. The event will feature New Zealand’s internationally renowned seafood to compliment the wines.
The 2010 Nelson Aromatics Symposium will be held in the Moutere Hills Community Centre on Saturday 6th February 2010. Tickets are limited and early registration is recommended.
