China's Exports Down 20.5 Per Cent

China's total imports and exports fell by a combined 10.7 per cent year on year in October, according to the General Administration of Customs.

Imports totalled USD86.8 bn last month, down 6.4 per cent on October 2008 last year, while exports fell 13.8 per cent, to USD110.8 bn.

Across the first 10 months of the year, total imports and exports were USD1.76 trillion, down 19.9 per cent compared with the same 2008 period. Imports fell 19 per cent while exports dipped 20.5 per cent over the period.

The European Union was China's largest trading partner, though bilateral trade declined 18.7 per cent, followed by the United States (down 14.9 per cent), and Japan (down 19.3 per cent).
