Wine bar reopens as restaurant

Raval, the former wine bar at 453 King St. in downtown Charleston operated by the REV dining chain, will open Tuesday as the oddly (or creatively) named Closed for Business.

"It's funny and ironic," Revolutionary Eating Ventures marketing director Phoebe Byers said of the name.

The restaurant will serve classic American fare from burgers and fries to pork rinds and potato skins, and patrons must be 21 and older to enter. Tables are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The bar will feature 30 beers on tap, 50 bottled brews, a fine Scotch selection and premium liquors.

That's Italian

Father-son duo Edward and Frank Rinaldi recently opened La Tela Pizzeria in Freshfields Village at 133 Village Green Lane on Johns Island.

New to Johns Island from Connecticut, they specialize in Neapolitan-style Italian cuisine. The 65-seat restaurant has antique walls, marble tops and custom booths in an open-kitchen design.

Frank Rinaldi is a third-generation restaurateur and holds a bachelor's degree of professional studies from the noted Culinary Institute of America.

Take-out

Papa Murphy's, a take-and-bake pizza chain based in Vancouver, Wash., will open its first Charleston-area store Wednesday at 216 St. James Ave. in Goose Creek. Another store will open later this month at 923 Folly Road on James Island, company marketing director Lisa Schreiber said.

At the shop, customers select their toppings and take the pizza home to cook.

The new stores are owned by G&B Retail Group, which is registered to George Sarkis of Myrtle Beach. The company plans six other stores in the metro area over the next two years.

Keyed up

Newly opened used-car dealer Absolute Auto Sales at 2700 Ashley Phosphate Rd. in North Charleston will have its grand opening Dec. 19, including a car giveaway, owner Michael Harris said.

Anyone can get a free raffle ticket to enter the contest, but the winner must be present at 4 p.m. Saturday during the drawing to collect the keys on a 1993 Ford Taurus. The winner is responsible for the title, tags and insurance. The business recently added U-Hauls and auto detailing to its offerings.

Discount special

Dollar General is spreading holiday cheer by offering a 10 percent discount on bulk toy purchases of $250 or more. The promotion is meant to help organizations with holiday toy drives.

The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based company, with about two dozen stores in the Charleston area, also is hosting in-store toy drives to benefit children in local communities. The discount is good through Dec. 24.
