Mondavi family of wines, owned by beverages giant Constellation Brands, has continued to expand.

The most affordable series, at around $8 per bottle, is Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi.

Woodbridge is based in Lodi, an up-and-coming wine region located about 30 miles south of Sacramento.

Robert Mondavi Private Selection is a series of wines from California’s Central Coast. Priced around $11, they likewise offer good value.

Solaire by Robert Mondavi is a bit pricier, and the flagship wines come from Napa Valley’s Robert Mondavi Winery.

Robert Mondavi Private Selection 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon ($11) has ripe black cherry flavors and a rich mouthfeel. It works well with tomato-sauced pastas and hard cheeses like parmesan.

Robert Mondavi Private Selection 2007 Meritage ($11) is more Bordeaux-like in style, with plummy flavors and dusty tannins. Match this with heartier fare like steak or game.

Woodbridge 2008 Cabernet-Merlot ($8) is an easy-drinking red blend with candied fruit flavors. Enjoy it with hamburgers or pizza.

Woodbridge 2008 Chardonnay ($8) has citrus aromas, pear flavors and hints of vanilla. Pair this versatile wine with salads, seafood or soft cheeses like brie.

Woodbridge 2008 Moscato ($8) is lightly sweet and slightly fizzy. This floral and honeyed wine works best with dessert or as an aperitif.
