In addition to the Museum’s extensive permanent collection, you can also explore two special exhibitions: Tiffany Treasures, an exhibition featuring Louis Comfort Tiffany’s blown-glass objects and design drawings from Tiffany Studios, and Voices of Contemporary Glass: The Heineman Collection, showcasing 240 contemporary works in glass by 87 international artists. Both are included in the price of admission.
Warm up by the glass ovens and Make Your Own Glass. Projects are available for all ages. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, you can even Make Your Own Glass Heart (available January 14 – February 14).
The Corning Museum of Glass is located in the heart of Finger Lakes Wine Country, which offers great winter activities, including wine tastings, snow sports, and sitting in one of the many cozy hotels and Bed and Breakfasts with a steaming mug of local apple cider. Corning, NY, and The Corning Museum of Glass are conveniently located directly off Exit 46 on I-86/Rte. 17. The town is 4 hours north of New York City, 2 hours south of Buffalo and 6 hours north of Washington, D.C., about mid-way between Niagara Falls and New York City.
The Corning Museum of Glass is home to the world’s most comprehensive and celebrated collection of glass, with more than 45,000 objects reflecting 3,500 years of glassmaking history. An independent, non-profit, educational institution, the Museum is dedicated to the art, history, science, research and exhibition of glass. The Museum is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the summer. Children and teens, 19 and under, receive free admission.
