CAPTIONBy Darcy PadillaYou may have caught our earlier post about the growing hunger here in the U.S. where 49 million adults and children go hungry each day.

To combat these disturbing numbers, Jean-Charles Boisset, president of global wine importer and producer Boisset Family Estates, partnered with Feed the Children for their second annual "Fight Against Hunger" nationwide campaign to get 1.2 million meals on dinner tables of families in need.

"The wine world is deeply connected to the harvest, agriculture and food – great wines are complemented by great meals, and thus, as part of the world of food and wine, we find it troubling to tolerate the existence of hunger among our friends and neighbors," says Boisset in a news release. "We know that now, more than ever, even families that have never thought to seek help before need assistance."

As part of the campaign, each bottle of Boisset Family Estates wine purchased from July through December of last year at participating retailers, restaurants and hotels provided 3 meals to hungry families through Feed the Children.

So, did Boisset reach his goal?

He did, indeed, dropping off the last round of food donations this month with 200,000+ meals going to several food banks in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the San Francisco Food Bank and the Redwood Empire Food Bank (in northern California),  and, along with their local partner Legal Seafoods in Boston, 5,175 meals to the Greater Boston Food Bank. According to Boisset, these local food banks and others were instrumental to the success of these food drops.
