Organic wine, future star of Chinese wine market?
In recent years, organic food consumption has been fully developed as an international trend. According to a report of Argentina's Animal and Plant Health Quarantine Bureau in 2008, Argentina's exports of organic wine topped to more than 3.5 billon liters, but in 2003 the world's total exports of organic wine is merely 50,000,000 liters.
Compared to international market, Chinese organic wines is still in its enfancy. "Wine enterprises got organic wines certification is only the past two or three years ago." An expert who is familiar with organic wine certification told China Wine News.
Certified organic wines currently available to only three wineries with limited production, with Chateau Philippe 90 liters, COFCO Huaxia Great Wall 163 liters, the biggest share is occupied by Gansu Weilong Organic Wine Co., Ltd., a total of 3300 liters.
In recent years, competition in China wine industry is intensifying. Big producers like Dynasty, COFCO all have increased grape-producing base in Shandong, Ningxia, Xinjiang and other regions. In this background, organic wines no doubt can diversify their products and strengthen their competition.
