Premium Wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon Enhance Portfolio

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd., is proud to announce its appointment as national importer for Hecht & Bannier wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. The addition of this young negociant eleveur operation to the Wildman family blends perfectly with the rest of the expansive portfolio that caters to a demanding traditional, as well as, “New World” wine enthusiast.

In 2002, Gregory Hecht and François Bannier, both professionals with a passion for smart business ventures and great wine, began their boutique negociant eleveur business with the following mantra: “to conserve the typical Mediterranean strength in the wines while preserving balance and crispness in each of their appellations.” Hecht & Bannier is located in Southern France’s largest and most confounded winemaking region—the Languedoc-Roussillon—a vibrant and emerging region that promises, when in the right hands, to deliver high-quality appellation wines from some of the country’s oldest vineyards.

“Modeled on what is happening with famous negociant eleveurs in Burgundy or in the Rhône Valley, we consider Hecht & Bannier ‘the new kid on the block’, constantly moving forward to redefine the meaning of the word negociant eleveur”, explained Gregory Hecht, co-founder of the Hecht & Bannier. “We select our wines very early from cooperatives, young winegrowers, as well as from well-known domaines”, continued Hecht, “a particular care is given to ageing which we consider to be the core of our business: usually 24 months, in large format barrels, mostly the Demi Muids, the traditional Languedoc barrel of 600 liters” (and we are not tied to any winery by contract, which allows us more freedom to fit our sourcing to the success of a specific area).”

Hecht & Bannier line of wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon includes, a vibrant and peppery Cotes de Roussillon Villages ($25) made from primarily Grenache (70%); a Faugeres ($37) made from 70% Syrah and 30% Mourvedre that is so sinewy, one would say it was made for Barbecue! The line continues with a Minervois ($22), a syrah-based wine that is synonymous with silk and perfect harmony. The Languedoc rose ($11), mainly based on Syrah and Cinsault, a dry, floral and spicy rosé, the newest addition to the line—a sure complement to a brand that is quickly becoming the reference for quality in a region with a unique range of appellation wines.

The full line of Hecht & Bannier wines is available through Wildman’s network of distributors throughout the US.
