South African wines to expand in China under the name of World Cup
On January 28, The South African Wine Importers Union held a "drink South African wine, win South African Tour" event press conference in Guangzhou ,along with a South Africa wine tasting. The event is aimed to make more people know about South Africa as well as South African wines.
The South African wine sector expects the 2010 soccer World Cup — which kicks off in South Africa on June 11 — to boost sales hurt by a global economic crisis and weakened economies in key export markets.
South Africa's wine production ranked eighth in the world, but its share is very low is not high in China market. In Guangdong Province, importer of South Africa's wines is no more than 30.
The promotion "Drink South African wine, win the South African Tour" will last for six months.
Key export destinations of South African wine include Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, Canada and America, with focus also turning to emerging economies Russia and China.
