Yellow Tail in animal rights storm
Yellow Tail producer Casella Wines has stopped donating to an animal charity following protests from farmers.
The Australian producer made a $100,000 contribution to the Humane Society of the United States last month, leading to an outcry from agricultural businesses who claim HSUS supports the elimination of meat from human diets.
Online campaigning, including a Facebook page and YouTube videos denouncing the wine as "Yellow Fail", appear to have persuaded Casella to withdraw any future support for the organisation.
"They have committed to in the future only supporting welfare organisations with a sole commitment to animal care," said Kay Johnson Smith, executive vice president of the Animal Agriculture Alliance.
Yellow Tail is the best-selling imported wine in the US market.
