Watch out for some exciting new options on the wine list at the Hyatt Regency Dongguan later this year.

The Manager of the hotel’s Copper Grill, Ms Milly Jin, will spend 10 days in Australia in early June, touring and tasting in some of the country’s most prestigious wine regions, after winning the Hyatt Wine Scholarship.

Ms Jin will be the guest of Wine Australia, who sponsors the annual scholarship program, which is extended to staff from seven Hyatt hotels located in Dongguan, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Macau and across Hong Kong.

“We received more than 70 applications this year and the standard and level of interest were very high,” commented Marco Avitabile, Director of Culinary Operations, Hyatt International – Asia Pacific Limited.

“All applicants had to complete a multiple choice test about Australian wine regions and the wines they are famous for, as well as preparing tasting notes at a supervised tasting, and we were very impressed with the results,” he said.

Wine Australia’s Regional Manager, Ms Ali Lockwood, said the scholarship had been created to recognise the important role Hyatt hotels played in the Pearl River Delta region.

“China is learning more and more about Australian wine all the time and now Milly has a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to increase her knowledge first hand and take what she has learned back to Donugguan,” said Ms Lockwood.

Milly Jin was equally delighted adding, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Wine Australia and Hyatt Regency Dongguan for providing this wonderful scholarship program. It is an incredible opportunity for me to truly understand and explore the diversity of Australian wine and I hope to learn a lot from my visit to Australia. I feel very fortunate to have been awarded the Hyatt Wine Scholarship, and cannot wait to discover Australia!”
