Riverland grape growers getting depressed

Mental health is a major concern among wine grape growers in South Australia's Riverland.

But 96 per cent of those wine grape growers want to continue in the industry despite issues they're facing like water uncertainty and low grape prices.

Executive officer of Riverland Wine Grape Growers Association, Chris Byrne, says growers should take the time to ask their friends and neighbours how they're going.

"That's the very first step. Most people are reluctant to talk about the fact that they're feeling down or they're feeling trapped or they're feeling as though there's no way out," he says.

"Once they begin to talk about it and realise there's an awful lot of people in the same boat, it's not a thing to be ashamed of.

"It's something to be identified and acted upon."
