The World of Wine retail concept at SYD Airport Tax & Duty Free's new state-of-the-art Departures shop at Sydney Airport

AUSTRALIA. The Nuance Group has unveiled details of the World of Wine concept at its new 4,000sq m SYD megastore at Sydney Airport.

World of Wine - one of a series of 'World of' concepts dedicated to diverse product categories - features more than 100 fine wines at SYD Airport Tax & Duty Free's new state-of-the-art Departures store. Some of the rare wines are not for sale anywhere else in Australia.

The exclusive wines, including Jacob's Creek 35th Anniversary Padthaway 2005 Shiraz, Orlando Jacaranda Ridge 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, and bottles from the Henschke museum collection - are sourced directly from Australian and New Zealand cellars and come with unique tasting notes written by leading Australian wine expert Phil Reedman.

Rare museum stock, including Henschke's Hill of Grace 1991 Shiraz, has been exclusively released to Nuance, with some bottles available in collectors' magnums.

Aiming to excite the wine connoisseur

A Master of Wine, Reedman has also provided an educational map of the wine's region of origin and information about the grapes with each bottle.

"I’ll tell you about the wine using a familiar vocabulary; what the wine tastes like; when to drink it; and the sort of foods it matches with," said Reedman, who has worked with The Nuance Group, the operator of SYD Airport Tax & Duty Free, in its European stores for the past 18 months.

"There are so many wines to choose from that it can become overwhelming. We want customers to feel comfortable when buying wine so we’ve given them key pieces of information that will inform their decision. I love the idea of introducing more people to wine and helping those already enjoying wine to find new and exciting wines that they might not otherwise have purchased," he continued.

"Duty free and travel retail is an exciting area to work in and one where customers need just as much assistance in making their purchases as in any other retail format."

SYD Airport Tax & Duty Free Director David Odgers commented: "Wine is the perfect product for customer engagement and in this new space we are able to showcase properly the best wines from Australia in a way that helps customers to get more from their shopping experience, whether they are shopping for a gift or souvenir or building their personal cellar. The fine wine section must be among the best retail offers of its type with aged and rare wines that will excite any connoisseur.”
