Vinexpo Asia-Pacific Embraces the Future

By   2010-4-29 11:08:03

Vinexpo Asia-Pacific takes place in Hong Kong from 25 to 27 May 2010 and holds its promises.

842 exhibitors from 32 producing countries are attending. Visitors, importers and purchasers from all the Asian-Pacific countries have already announced they are coming. More than 9,500 trade professionals are expected over the 3 days of the exhibition.

The Academy featuring a wide programme of presentations and tastings, designed to provide information and training for visitors, is full.

Vinexpo Asia-Pacific at the heart of future markets

The latest Vinexpo / The IWSR study confirms the forecasts of the last few years: Asia is the driver of world growth in the global wine market, and spirits consumption should continue to grow in these countries in the coming years, although at a slower rate.
Even though Asia only accounts for 4% of total world consumption of wine, worth an estimated US$7 billion in 2009, the potential for growth in these markets is irresistible. By 2013, the study forecasts that Asian sales will have reached US$ 9 billion.

China and Hong Kong are the most vigorous markets; per capita consumption is on the increase and imports are leaping ahead, up 8.7 million 9-litre cases in 2008. Japan, the 7th largest wine importer in the world in terms of value, continued to lead in Asia in 2008 importing the highest volume of wines and spending more than any other Asian country.

Asia-Pacific accounts for 50.6% of total world spirits consumption. Between 2009 and 2013, this is expected to increase by a further 4.7%.

Returning yet again to Hong Kong, Vinexpo Asia-Pacific confirms its status as the leading trade exhibition, contributing to Hong Kong’s ambition to become an international wine hub in Asia.

A resolutely international exhibition with 842 exhibitors from 32 countries

After the resounding success of its previous exhibitions, Vinexpo Asia-Pacific has become a central event of key importance that clearly meets the expectations of the wine and spirits industry, as witnessed in the overwhelming attendance it enjoys.
This year, the exhibition filled up in no time and to respond to the increasing demand, more stands were installed on 1,500 sq. m of extra floor space made available at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, bringing the total exhibition area to 8,500 sq. m.

Europe is represented by companies from Italy, Spain, Portugal and Germany, as well as the UK, Switzerland, Greece, Rumania, Ukraine and Bulgaria.
France, the leading supplier of wine to the Asian countries, is strongly represented. In all, nearly 4,300 sq. m of floor space have been dedicated to displaying the sheer diversity of French wines and spirits, and the majority of this area is occupied by well-known companies: Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Louis Roederer, Castel Frères and Rémy Cointreau. A 1,100 sq. m French pavilion completes the coverage of the French offering.

For the Americas, USA has doubled the number of exhibiting companies, which will exhibit either in a Californian pavilion or the Washington State pavilion.
Many Chilean and Argentinean companies will exhibit in pavilions and alongside other prestigious names such as Concha y Toro and Santa Rita.

Pacific-based wine and spirits producers have increased their presence as exhibitors by 30% compared to 2008. 11 Australian and 5 New Zealand companies will offer their products for tasting over the 3 days of the exhibition.
From Asia, China, the 10th largest world producer of wines will be present alongside South Korea.

South Africa is strengthening its presence at the exhibition. The long-faithful exhibitors such as Baarsma and Robinson & Sinclair, will be joined by companies like Cape Legends and Rupert Wines, who are exhibiting for the first time.

Other countries such as Madagascar, Mauritius and Ireland are making their first appearances at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific.

A much-awaited exhibition

9,500 professionals from more than 25 Asian-Pacific countries are expected at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, including large groups of visitors from Hong Kong and China.

Importers like Suntory, Mercian and Asahi from Japan, ASC Fine Wines and Summergate from China, Jointek and Jebsen from Hong Kong and Crystal Wines from Singapore, purchasers from Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong), from All Nippon Airways (Japan) and Vietnam Airlines, the Food & Beverage managers from the Shanghai Hilton, the Mandarin Oriental and the Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong, and buyers from major retailers such as Metro (Asia), Woolworths (Australia) and Watson’s Wine Cellar (Hong Kong) have all confirmed that they are coming.

Within this calendar, 12 master classes make up the Certificated Programme, which participants can attend with the Certificated Programme Pass that can be obtained on the Vinexpo website.
