Australian and New Zealand companies to offer wine for tasting at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong
Eleven Australian and five New Zealand companies will offer their products for tasting at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong from May 25 to 27.
They are among 842 exhibitors from 32 countries showcasing their wines at the event, which is expected to attract nearly 10,000 trade professionals.
Organisers say that Pacific-based wine and spirits producers have increased their presence as exhibitors by 30 per cent compared to 2008.
They say studies show that Asia is the driver of world growth in the global wine market, and spirits consumption should continue to grow in these countries in the coming years, although at a slower rate.
Even though Asia only accounts for four per cent of total world consumption of wine, the potential for growth in these markets is irresistible. By 2013, the study forecasts that Asian sales will have reached US$ 9 billion.
China and Hong Kong are the most vigorous markets; per capita consumption is on the increase and imports are leaping ahead, up 8.7 million 9-litre cases in 2008. Japan, the seventh largest wine importer in the world in terms of value, continued to lead in Asia in 2008 importing the highest volume of wines and spending more than any other Asian country.
