ARA Goes Gold in Canada

Next generation Marlborough producer, ARA, has been awarded two Gold Medals at one of the world’s oldest and most important wine competitions: the 2010 Selections Mondiales des Vin competition in Quebec, Canada.

The 2009 Pathway Sauvignon Blanc and the 2007 Resolute Pinot Noir dominated their individual classes, taking home Gold Medals against tough international competition.

In fact, with 1,789 wine entries ARA was the only New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir to receive a coveted Gold medal at Mondiales des Vins.

Having just returned from Canada, ARA Commercial Director, Sue Henderson was excited to receive the judging news.

“To pick up Gold at both ends of our product range says a lot about our consistency of style at all price points,” Sue said.

“The Pathway Sauvignon Blanc is a wine that is an honest and true reflection of the youthful vineyards at ARA. The Resolute Pinot Noir on the other hand is a small production, premium wine made from hand selected, individual parcels of the finest Pinot Noir fruit from the estate.”

Dr. Damian Martin, ARA General Manager of Viticulture and Winemaking, believes that grapes produced at ARA’s single estate vineyard from restrained yields produce new world aromatics with old world texture.

“Wine consumers are responding very positively to winemaking philosophy at ARA. Our approach is to bring together the very best of Old World tradition and New World innovation making distinctive New Zealand wines with character and sophistication.

“We are extremely proud that these two ARA wines have been recognised amongst such distinguished company.”
