South Australia's Wine Industry Council has been restructured to foster a stronger partnership between the sector and the state government.

Agriculture Minister Michael O'Brien said the new group would have a stronger focus on how South Australia could maintain its position as the preeminent wine producer in Australia.

A blueprint has been prepared for the next five years to also strengthen relationships between the wine, food and tourism industries.

"I look forward to working collaboratively with members to identify and address issues and challenges that impact on the industry and capitalise on future growth opportunities," Mr O'Brien said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The partnership plan states that industry will concentrate on addressing market issues through innovation and collaboration.

"It will act in a manner that pursues economic and environmental sustainability and promotes social responsibility."

Co-chair of the restructured council, Louisa Rose, said its focus would be to promote ongoing development of the industry and strengthen the value chain.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for us to take a holistic approach to keeping South Australia's wine regions at the forefront of Australia's wine industry," she said.
