China Authorities in search for melamine beverage
It is understood that market regulators in Xiangfan have started an "all-out-search" for the dairy-based beverages that are believed to contain melamine
Authorities in Hubei Province have initiated a search for a batch of 50 corn-flavoured drinks containing "high levels" of melamine, according to reports.
It is understood that market regulators in Xiangfan have started an "all-out-search" for the beverages that are believed to contain melamine - the chemical that killed six babies and led to 300,000 consumers reporting sickness in China in a tainted milk scandal in 2008.
The administration for industry and commerce in Xiangfan issued a notice last week asking all local businesses to look for 50 packages of "a type of corn-flavour dairy beverage", China Daily reported.
The notice added the beverage might have entered the local market, but as of early last week, local authorities could not find any trace of them.
