According to the statistics from Wenzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, appropriately 199 batches of imported wines at Wenzhou port, with an amount of 21,000 hectoliters in number and 9.693 million US dollars in value, had been inspected in the first 11 months of this year. It was an obvious increase of 99%, 112.3% and 90.6% respectively over the same period of the last year, which is 60% of the total amount in Zhejiang.
It is said that wines imported at Wenzhou port are mainly from such wine-making countries as France, Italy, Spain, Chile, Australia, the U.S and so on. Wenzhou port has witnessed a significant increase in wine import this year. It is predicted that the imports will top 10 million US dollars. The proprietors engaging in imported wine transactions in Wenzhou are mainly overseas Chinese emigrated from Wenzhou, which in turn facilitates the wine  import.
“The initiative of Wenzhou in building itself into a China wine distribution center has reaped preliminary fruit.” people from Wenzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau said. Xu Liang, Secretary-General of Wenzhou Wine Guild, was cited as saying that an important reason why Wenzhou could enjoy an increase in imported wines was that Wenzhou was trying to sell its wines nationwide.
According to incomplete statistics, there have been more than one thousand Wenzhou wine agents scattering in Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Henan, etc for the time being. Besides, not a few wineries in Wenzhou have accelerated their steps in exploring markets this year.
