Shanghai Brewing Association(SBA)released 2010 Imported Wine List on December 10th, saying that Shanghai witnessed a 60 per cent increase in wine import year on year, accounting for one fifths of the total amount in the country this year.
In 2009, people in Shanghai consumed 101,000 kiloliters wines, among which 54% were national wines, 36% were imported wines. This year, it is predicted that 40% will be increased compared with that of 2009, in which 60% are imported bottled wines, a 56% rise by comparison with other provinces in China. Therefore, Shanghai is expected to top China wine consumption list this year, accounting for one fifths of the total amount in the country. Wines made in Italy enjoy the largest increase, up to 242%.
It was said that over 1.8 million netizens voted in this poll. However, what was striking was that among the listed 10 the top three, namely French Macon Superieur AOC, an Australian red wine and a Chilean red wine, were ranked medium in price, which was ¥220, ¥132 and ¥139 per bottle on the internet respectively. On the country, a kind of “Royal Tribute” with a high retail price of ¥452 per bottle ranked 10.
It is reported that 28 countries and regions are exporting wines to China at present. Analysts engaging in imported wine marketing management argue that the appreciation of RMB has lowered import costs. “Appreciation Effect” can be seen from the perspective of the rise in wine import. Generally speaking, retail price of imported wine will be lowered.
