Jewish community backs Md.direct wine shipping bill

Maryland Jews are letting legislators know it’s not just wine connoisseurs who want wines shipped to their homes.

Fed up with the limited number of kosher wines available in the state, proponents of changing the state’s wine laws say they no longer want to celebrate Passover with the same old Manischewitz.

“Some will say there are enough kosher wines available in Maryland. This argument is a pure fallacy,” Orthodox Jew Gershon Topas told legislators in Annapolis on March 7. “Are you prepared to deny our religious minority the freedom to buy what we are obligated to consume?”
