An advert for London-based Corney and Barrow Wine Bars (C&B) that urges punters to down alcohol for breakfast has been banned.

The banned ad stated 'Now that's a red worth getting out of bed for' (Pic: Alamy)

The ad for the trendy chain ‘encouraged consumers to adopt styles of drinking that were unwise’ and ‘irresponsible’, said a spokesman for the Advertising Standards Authority.

The advert, sent to thousands of customers by email, encouraged city workers to tuck into a full English breakfast with a glass of red wine.

It stated: ‘Forget boring team meetings in the office – book a Beaujolais breakfast with C&B and enjoy a glass of Beaujolais Nouveau.’

'We guarantee your meeting minutes will be taken to a whole new level.

'Now that's a red worth getting out of bed for.'

A spokesman for C&B said the offer was for just ‘a single, small-sized glass of wine’, adding that the beverage was only available 'when a customer purchased a full English breakfast, which would offset the effects of the alcohol'.
