Awards for local wines
Six of the 16 trophies at the Royal Easter Show Wine Awards went to Marlborough wineries, including two for Lawsons Dry Hills.
Johanneshof Cellars Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2010 won The Village Press Trophy for champion gewurztraminer; Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 won the Guala Closures Trophy for champion sauvignon blanc; Lawsons Dry Hills Marlborough Riesling 2008 won the Auckland AP&I Shows Board Trophy for champion riesling; Riverby Estate Marlborough Noble Riesling 2009 won the Riedel Trophy for champion sweet wine; Nautilus Estate Cuvee Marlborough Methode Traditionnelle Brut NV won the Rapid Labels Trophy for champion sparkling; and Lawson's Dry Hills Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 won the JF Hillebrand New Zealand Trophy for the Champion Export Wine.
Hunter's Wines won the Heritage Shield for its 2010, 2007 and 2004 Marlborough Rieslings.
Villa Maria Group winemaker Alistair Maling and Villa Maria Estate winemaker Nic Picone won the winemakers of the year gold medal.
Villa Maria Reserve Hawke's Bay Syrah 2009 won the champion wine of the show trophy.
