Leading wineries in Deal
The owners of Muddy Water Winery Ltd and Greystone Wines have announced the sale of Muddy Water vineyard and winery to Greystone, with immediate effect.
Greystone see this as a strategic move in acquiring a cornerstone brand, as well as the vineyards and winery from Muddy Water.
“We were looking to build a winery and after initial talks with Mike and Jane East we decided to make an offer to purchase Muddy Water,” said Bruce Thomas – CEO at Greystone Wines.
“The opportunity of acquiring such a strong Waipara brand, with its organic status, and international reputation is very exciting for us”
‘We see it as an opportunity to build on the strengths of both brands, and we are very pleased that we have been able to acquire Muddy Water and therefore ensure the longevity of the brand “
Mike and Jane East said this outcome was good for both the Waipara Valley and the New Zealand wine industry. “We made a decision to exit the industry and we are very happy that a neighbouring vineyard, also family owned, and with similar philosophies to ours, has purchased Muddy Water”.
“We are very supportive of Greystone and wish them every success in the future.”
Muddy Water is active in the New Zealand wine industry’s high end marketing initiative into the US market involving twenty select wineries.
Greystone Wines was recently selected by the influential UK wine magazine ‘Decanter’ as one of New Zealand’s top twenty wine estates by Master of Wines Bob Campbell.
