Minnesota Monthly Magazine, in conjunction with its upcoming Minnesota Food and Wine Experience, has announced the winners of its wine competition.

Carlos Creek Winery received the “Best Minnesota White Wine” for its Minnesota Nice Wobegon White.

“Wobegon quickly became our best selling white after we first released it in 2009,” noted owners Kim and Tami Bredeson. “ It’s a very refreshing wine – similar to a Riesling, but with less of a floral bouquet and a crisper finish.”

The wine is made predominantly from frontenac gris, a grape developed by the University of Minnesota and grown locally by Florian and Aggie Ledermann at their Cedar Rose Wild Vineyards.

It also features prairie star grapes, which were developed by renowned Midwest grape breeder Elmer Swenson and are grown at Carlos Creek vineyards and Legend Vineyards in Eagle Bend.

Carlos Creek Winery will team up with Alexandria Hotel and Hospitality Association at the upcoming Minnesota Food and Wine Experience to be held at Target Field March 5 and 6.

Admittance is $75. The show features gourmet fare and samples of more than 350 fine wines and 75 specialty beers.

Carlos Creek Winery has been crafting internationally award-winning wines north of Alexandria since it opened in 1999.
