Hardy supporters raise over $8,000 for christchurch
Despite heavy rain, Wairarapa showed its support for its southern neighbours yesterday, raising over $8,000 at the Christchurch Fundraiser held at Gladstone Vineyard.
All proceeds from the day are being donated to the Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal.
Event organiser Leo Lamoury said the wintry weather conditions didn’t put off hardy supporters who turned up to enjoy live music, food and wine, and opened their wallets to bid for some of the many goods and services donated by local Wairarapa businesses.
“We were pretty overwhelmed, not only by the generosity of local businesses and musicians, but also by the number of people who rugged up and came out to the vineyard with full hearts and wallets.
“The atmosphere was humbling – a wonderful feeling of community spirit and goodwill.”
