The first cup of wine for the altar is sold for 80,000 yuan in the worship ceremony
TITLES of being the first to burn incense sticks and to offer wine in a worship ceremony honoring Fu Xi, a Chinese ancestor who taught people to cook, fish and hunt, have been auctioned by the event organizer and the money will go to education, China News Agency reported.
The first bunch of joss sticks to be burned at the tomb of Fu Xi was auctioned for 1.18 million yuan (US$ 179,687) while the first cup of wine for the altar was sold for 80,000 yuan on Saturday in Huaiyang, central China's Henan Province. Their buyers are all companies.
Zhang Changqi, a local publicity official, said the money would be used to support the education of needy children in the area and to set up a fund to sponsor outstanding local college students who have financial difficulties.
He said all the money had already been put into an official account for that purpose after the auction.
