Media mogul and philanthropist Ted Turner is coming to Wine Country Sunday, April 17th in honor of Earth Day to talk about how to best tend the planet.

He should be a good source of ideas. He drives a Prius with a bumper sticker that says, “Save the Humans.”

Turner will be the keynote speaker at the fifth annual “Eat, Drink and Be Green” event, an Earth Day celebration at Iron Horse Vineyards in Sebastopol.

What will Turner talk about?

“As you might imagine, it is impossible to tie Ted Turner down to just one concern,” said Joy Sterling, partner and CEO of Iron Horse Vineyards. “He wants to tackle them all and has chosen as his subject nothing less than 'The Future.'"

Sterling said she asked Turner to come to Wine Country because “Ted is extraordinary ... He has more energy than just about anyone else I know. He has a great love of the land, which is what we are all about in Wine Country.”

She's convinced he'll make an impact on people here because “Ted is a doer. He's motivating. He makes you want to get up and go ... Most of all, he's an optimist. He thinks we can turn things around if we get on it — now.”

Turner recently received former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev's inaugural “Man who Changed the World” award. He won Gorbachev's “Glasnost Award"for his contribution to the development of the culture of an open world.

The billionaire runs five active foundations addressing some of the world's most pressing issues — from improving air and water quality and developing sustainable energy solutions to his Captain Planet Foundation, which raises money to educate children on how they can make a positive impact, to the Nuclear Threat Initiative launched in 2001, which 文章来源中国酒业新闻网works to reduce the dangers of nuclear weapons.

Turner is best known as the founder of CNN and for his billion-dollar gift to the United Nations.

As for the eco-friendly event at Iron Horse, it will showcase the spring releases of Green Valley, with pours from Iron Horse, DeLoach Vineyards, Dutton-Goldfield, Freeman Vineyard & Winery, Hartford Family Winery, Marimar Estate as well as Sequana, and others.

General admission tickets will be $65 and a one-hour VIP meet-and-greet session scheduled with Turner, limited to 100 guests, with Iron Horse Sparkling Wines and sustainably farmed California caviar, is $300.

Net proceeds will benefit the Captain Planet Foundation. For more information, contact Iron Horse at 707-887-1507.
