Wine exports fall
In the red: Aussie wine exports have fallen.
AUSTRALIAN wine exports fell 3 per cent in the 12 months to March, according to the latest industry report.
Wine Australia's report, released last week, attributes the result to an accelerating decline in bottled exports, partly offset by a smaller increase in bulk exports.
Wine Australia estimates the value of the 755 million litres exported during the period at $2.02 billion.
"Compared to the change in the previous year, the decline in the volume of bottled shipments accelerated while the increase in the volume of bulk wine exports halved," the report said.
"Factors that contributed to this include the ongoing strong Australian dollar and some major brands pulling out of lower price points in the UK and US ... "
The report said all wine categories declined in volume, with white wine recording the biggest drop.
The share of white wine exports fell by 1 per cent to 37 per cent while the red wine share rose to 60 per cent. The sparkling and other wine share stayed at 3 per cent.
The top export markets were unchanged: the UK, US and Canada.
