Tuscan wine producer Piccini has launched a new wine blended from grapes grown across Italy.

The family-owned producer has taken advantage of the new Vino d’Italia classification to launch Memoro, which will retail for around £9 in the off-trade and be distributed by PLB.

The wine is 40% Primitivo from Puglia, 30% oak-aged Montepulciano from Abruzzo, 20% Nero d’Avola from Sicily and 10% Merlot del Veneto from the north.

The first bottles to be released will bear neck-tags in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italian unification.

Mario Piccini, who runs the business with his sister Martina, said: “My family has been making wine for four generations in Tuscany – it is in our blood. But by performing our own unification of other wine regions, we have produced a wine that tastes and feels truly Italian.”
