US-based Opici Wines has launched Homemade Barberone in an earth-friendly bag-in-box (BiB) pack replacing its glass jug.

The new BiB uses 91% less packaging, 70% less greenhouse gases, and is 100% recyclable and it stays fresh for up to 6 weeks after opening.

Opici Homemade comes in 3 liter and is expected to be priced at SRP:$19.50 and the 5 liter is priced at $24.50 versions, and retains the kitschy-cool, cartoon label.

Opici Wines managing director Don Opici said for many years, the 4-liter jug was the only way to dispense an everyday wine at a fair cost.

"But today's bag-in-box format makes the most sense in terms of efficiency, affordability, and doing what's best for Mother Earth," Opici added.

While Homemade is still available in 3-liter glass, the new glossy black box is a better value - and better for the environment, the company claims.

The Homemade wine is now made from 100% Tempranillo, which the company claims that its fans might notice the difference and is hopefull that they will welcome it.

The move to wine from Spain and in a box came about in response to customer demand. Two years ago, Homemade Barberone moved from a 4-liter jug to 3-liter due to escalating costs.
