Off-premise wine sales increase through February

Off-premise wine sales data increased 3.5 percent from the same period of the previous year in the four weeks ending March 5, 2011 according to The Nielsen Company-tracked data. In the 13 weeks ending the same period, sales were up 4.5 percent.

Domestic wine sales increased just 5.2 percent while imported wine sales fell 0.8 percent in the 4 weeks ending March 5. In the 13 weeks ending the same period, domestic sales increased 5.9 percent while imported wine increased 1.1 percent.

Wine sales grew the most in the over $20 price segment, increasing 11.8 percent in the 4 weeks ending March 5 and grew 12.7 percent in the 13 weeks ending the same period. Other price categories showing strong growth include the $9 to $11.99 and $15 to $19.99 segments while the $0 to $2.99 and $6 to $8.99 segments fell. Sales grew 8.2 percent in the 4 weeks and 9.7 percent in the 13 weeks ending March 5 in the $9 to $11.99 category; sales grew 6.2 percent in the 4 weeks and 10.1 percent in the 13 weeks in the $15 to $19.99 category. Sales in the $0 to $2.99 segment fell 4.2 percent in the 4 weeks and 3.8 percent in the 13 weeks ending March 5.
